Everyone has a supernatural potential to be extraordinary. These lessons from David’s Mighty Men in the Bible will show you how.

2 Samuel 23:8 “These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.”

David’s mighty men were the elite of his warriors. They were the Special Operations group of his armed forces.

Some of their legendary accomplishments are recorded in the Bible.

As you study these men, you will see confidence, faithfulness, determination, courage, faith, loyalty, dependability and more!

Mighty Men Don’t Start That Way.

Where did David find these mighty men? Did he go to a Warriors-R-Us store to hire them? No. Did he recruit them from a storied officer school like West Point? Nope.

In fact, they weren’t very “mighty” at the beginning.

No one is born mighty. We all begin this life as frail children born into a broken world. We are born naive and dependent.

While each of us have had different experiences, challenges, and opportunities, it is our individual choices that determine our greatness.

Before they were “David’s Mighty Men,” these men were a mess! They had many challenges to overcome. Their lives were so bad they considered it a step up to move into the wilderness and join with the most wanted man in the Kingdom!

1 Samuel 22:1-2 “David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.”

The crowd in that verse sounds like the average Baptist church!

If God can help these men to become mighty, He can do the same for you. Click To Tweet

Most men have little ambition or drive to become great. They go through life eating, working, and sleeping like drones. The best they hope for is a little distraction between dreary days.

You don’t have to live that way!

God made you to be extraordinary. Your potential is much greater than you realize.

Every Organization Needs Mighty Men.

No organization is successful without some key people who make the magic happen.

Will you be a mighty man, or will you be a drone who complains about how it “should” be?

Your family needs a mighty man to lead it.

Your church needs mighty men to follow God in faith and set the example for others.

Your employer needs some mighty men who will get the job done.

Your God needs mighty men to stand for Him in this present evil world.

Your church needs a mighty man of God to lead them to godliness.

Your pastor needs mighty men to fight the devil with him accomplishing God’s will.

Are you willing to do the hard jobs? To work without applause and recognition? To stand strong while the weak run? To be faithful during hard times?

With God’s help, you can be that man!

No One Knew These Men Were Special Until They Accomplished Something Mighty.

Men are defined by what they do.

You decide if you are a victim or a victor. You choose if you are a leader or a loser. Your actions determine whether you are a mighty man or a measly mouse.

Some people with a wonderful headstart (loving family, amazing opportunities, etc.) have ruined their lives. Other people born in tremendous adversity or devastated by circumstance have risen to greatness.

Consider the following Scripture.

Judges 6:12
“And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.”

When the angel approached Gideon, he called him a “mighty man of valour” as he hid behind the winepress. God knew his potential. How many mighty men are reading this, but you don’t know you are mighty yet?

Stop using your circumstances as an excuse to be mediocre. Rise up, O mighty man! Click To Tweet

Each Man Had Something To Contribute.

God made you special. You can do things that no one else alive can do.

Stop the pity party. Let go of past failures. Stop the discouraging self-talk. Release the pain of those who hurt you. Abandon the self-defeating lies that limit you.

Are you in debt? Are you discontent? Are you in distress? Then you are qualified to be a mighty man! David’s mighty men came to him in the same condition. The difference is that they rose above their circumstances through the power of God.

Don’t compare yourself to others. Do your best.

You are not in competition with anyone. You are in a race with your potential. At the Judgement Seat of Christ your works will be compared with your potential.

Do what you can! You might be surprised how God uses your feeble efforts.

They Were Too Busy Serving To Justify Why They Could Not Be Mighty.

Stop talking and do something mighty.

We all know people that work incredibly hard to get out of work. Often, it’s less effort to be quiet and get the job done.

Here is a life changing piece of advice –

Don't tell people what you are going to do. Do it and then tell people about it. Click To Tweet

There are so many “talkers” and so few “do-ers” that the do-ers can’t help but stand out.

Close your mouth and get busy doing what you know you should do.

Somebody Has To Do It.

Every organization needs mighty men.

See the need; fill the need.

This concept is clear in the account of David and Goliath. David was the least qualified soldier in the camp. He wasn’t even part of the army. Goliath wasn’t his problem.

Yet, David could not believe what this guy was saying. “Isn’t somebody going to do something,” David cried. David resolved to fight the giant himself. The rest is history.

You don’t need a position or a title to be a mighty man. You only need faith and resolve to get the job done.

With God, Anyone Can Be A Mighty Man.

“I’m not a mighty man.”

“It’s too late for me.”

“I’m too weak/old/young/dumb/proud/worthless/unknown/____________.” Fill in the blank with your excuse.

If you are thinking thoughts like these, you still don’t get it.

Being a mighty man has nothing to do with you! It has everything to do with your God!!

Mark 10:27 “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”

Many of the great men in history had faults and infirmities that should have disqualified them. It was GOD Who made them mighty.

Stop looking at yourself. Quit using your weakness as an excuse for failure. It is your weakness that allows God to work in you mightily.

Take your eyes off of yourself and fix them upon your Almighty God. He will show His might in you.

2 Chronicles 16:9
“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.”
