If you’re like most of my readers, you’re a committed Christian. You are striving to please God in your life and fulfill His will. You aspire to grow, get better, and reach your potential. You want to leave a lasting impact on your world.

But something keeps getting in the way: There just seems to be too much to do and too little time.

Maybe you feel like one of these people:

I feel overwhelmed. No matter what I’m doing, I feel like I should be doing something else. When I’m traveling for work, I am missing my son’s soccer game. When I make the game, I can hardly resist the impulse to pull my phone out of my pocket and check my email. I constantly wonder if I’m missing something important at work. I want to help out more at church and please the Lord, but life is moving so fast.

As a pastor, my work is never done. It is the privilege of my life to serve God, yet I am overwhelmed and discouraged. I feel like a failure. I want to be a stronger Christian, better husband, more engaged father, but I seem to keep losing ground. I’m trying to reach the lost, care for the flock, and grow our church, but I’m not seeing the results that I would like. I don’t know how much longer I can keep this up.

I’ve been saved for years and I love God. I’m a faithful member of my church and I do my best to help my pastor. I just wish I saw more fruit. I go soul winning, but don’t see many people saved. I work in my church’s ministries, but don’t feel like I’m making much of a difference. How can I make a greater eternal impact in my family and community?

Does This Sound Like You?

Be honest:

  • Do you feel like life is coming at you faster than you can manage it?
  • Do you fear the important things are falling through the cracks?
  • Do you worry that what seemed temporary has now become permanent?
  • Do you feel like a failure in some of life’s most important areas?
  • Are you struggling with trials that seem too big to overcome?
  • Do you want to feel closer to God?

If so, you’re not alone. All of us have felt this way.

I Know How You Feel

I know what it feels like to be in over your head—to have your life outpace your ability to manage it, while still attending to the things that matter most—family, health, faith, and community.

For years, I, too, struggled to get off the treadmill. Too often, my success came at the expense of my health and my most valuable relationships.

As a busy pastor, author, entrepreneur, and caregiver, I have faced the reality that there’s always more to do than there is time. But I also realized the answer isn’t simply to get more done. The answer is to get the right things done.

If you’re like me, that means making your relationship with God, your health, your marriage, relationships with your friends, your church, and your contribution to God’s Kingdom top priorities.
