How you vote is as important as the act of voting. As Christians, we cannot separate our politics from God’s Word. Consider five areas in which you must vote according to the Bible.

In recent contributions, we have discussed the privilege and importance of voting. In this article, let’s go a little deeper into voting to discuss how we decide for what we vote.

My entire adult life, I have heard politicians explain that they believe one thing in their personal lives, but another thing in politics or the voting booth. The most vivid example in my mind is Catholic Democrats. The Catholic church has taken a strong stand against abortion, yet democrats push a pro-abortion agenda. These conflicted politicians explain that they believe in their church, but they cannot allow their religion to affect their policies. What?!

This philosophy is precisely the opposite of how we should live.

Our religion MUST affect our politics.

True faith moves you to action. If you don’t act on it, you don’t really believe it.

We have the benefit of God’s Word. The Bible applies to every area of life. It is correct on every issue.

Consider these verses.

2 Timothy 3:16–17

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

God’s Word is inspired, preserved, inerrant, and infallible. It is never wrong.

The Bible is profitable in every domain of life. It teaches us four vital truths:

  • Doctrine – What Is Right.
  • Reproof – What Is Wrong.
  • Correction – How To Get It Right.
  • Instruction – How To Keep It Right.

God’s Word is given to us to make us mature (perfect) and to fully equip us to accomplish good works fulfilling the will of God.

Without the Bible, we are as hopeless as a small boat lost in the vast ocean in the middle of a hurricane. We lose our sense of direction and hope of correction.

The Word of God must inform our politics and direct our voting.

In short, we must vote according to the Bible.

Christians are obligated to vote on principle rather than personality.

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”

 – John Quincy Adams

Voting is an incredible privilege that much of the world does not enjoy. However, a vote is only as good as that for which you vote.

“A vote is like a rifle; its usefulness depends upon the character of the user.”

 – Theodore Roosevelt

“A government of laws, and not of men.”

 —John Adams

Our nation’s founder intended for us to be a land of freedom protected by laws. Fools trust their liberty to people and personalities.

Consider the following five areas in which you should vote according to the Bible.

1. Vote For Life

God decides when people are born and when they die.

1 Samuel 2:6

The Lord killeth, and maketh alive:

He bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

God is the giver and protector of life. Humans are commanded to respect life. Murder is a grievous sin.

Exodus 20:13

Thou shalt not kill.

God gives life and sustains it. We are kept alive by the will of God.

Psalm 66:9

Which holdeth our soul in life,

And suffereth not our feet to be moved.

Our Lord teaches us to care for those who cannot take care of themselves.

Matthew 25:34–40

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

We have the benefit of God’s Word. The Bible applies to every area of life. It is correct on every issue.   Share on X

Satan is the taker of life. Death began with Lucifer and continues through his emissaries today.

Some politicians embrace a culture of death. They murder the unborn through legalized abortion. They murder the elderly through legalized Euthanasia. In their twisted view, any life that cannot contribute to their efforts is in the way and can be removed.

God instructs us to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Proverbs 24:11–12

If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death,

 And those that are ready to be slain;

 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not;

Doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it?

And he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it?

And shall not he render to every man according to his works?

The Lives of children and the Lives of the elderly matter to God so they should matter to His people.

Vote for politicians who respect God’s authority regarding life and support policies that protect life.

2. Vote for Marriage

The definition of marriage has been challenged in America. Some would give the sacred title to any relationship. On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court decided in a 5-4 that the Fourteenth Amendment requires all states to grant same-sex marriage. This is a classic case of judicial activism as the court created a new law.

Sodomy (homosexuality) is an abomination to God.

Leviticus 18:22

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

God created marriage. He alone has the authority to define it.

God defines marriage as between one man and one woman.

Matthew 19:3–6

The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Marriage is the foundation of our society. The enemy of God works to destroy the family, and in so doing, society as a whole.

Vote to protect marriage and family.

3. Vote For Truth

Truth is eternal and unchanging. Trends and popular culture changes with the time, but God’s truth remains for ever.

Matthew 24:35

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Compare the platforms and promises of politicians to God’s Word. Vote for the ones who agree with God!

Vote for wisdom & common sense.

Proverbs 4:7

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom:

And with all thy getting get understanding.

So many people in politics espouse ridiculous philosophies and ungodly principles. They deny common sense and lie without shame. Vote for wisdom and common sense.

Gender & Identity?

Progressives have adopted the unscientific and ungodly position that gender and identity are fluid. Anyone can decide to identify as anything they choose and everyone else must comply with their preference. Failure to do so is aggression and violence. This philosophy is ridiculous.

Gender is biological. God made every person male or female.

Our creator designs each person before they were born and created them in the womb according to His design. Everyone is a special creation of God. It is rebellion against the Creator to deny how He made you.

Psalm 139:14

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:

 Marvellous are thy works;

And that my soul knoweth right well.

Vote to protect God’s intended identity.

Stop electing hypocrites and liars. Vote for truth.

4. Vote For The Proper Role of Government

The best we can hope from a functioning government is to be left alone to serve God according to His Word and our conscience.

1 Timothy 2:2

For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

The Biblical role of government is to protect the innocent and punish the evil doers.

Romans 13:3–4

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Governments can be corrupted to protect the evil and punish the good! We must vote for people who understand the role of government or we will choose to be ruled by tyrants.

Socialism and communism are ungodly philosophies that have caused untold death and destruction in the countries in which they have been instituted. They are the enemies of freedom and unworkable forms of government.

Don’t believe anyone who promises you the world if you vote for them. A government that promises to care for you from the cradle to the grave seeks to replace God in your life.

Vote for the Biblical role of government.

5. Vote For Liberty

Galatians 5:1

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

The Christians of the region of Galatia received the pure Gospel as preached by the Apostle Paul. Later, false teachers began to convince them to turn back to the law, works, and circumcision. Paul exhorted them to stand fast in the liberty of the Gospel. Why would you want to go back into bondage?

America is the freest nation on the planet. We enjoy liberties that other people can only wish for. Why would we want to go back into political bondage? Why would American citizens choose leaders who would change our system of government that offers less freedom and prosperity?

The Apostle reminded the Galatians that liberty was not given them to fulfill their lusts. They were set free, so they could follow God and serve one another.

Galatians 5:13

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

We must be good stewards of the liberty with which God has blessed us. If we squander it, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Some see the Bible as a book of rules to constrain them. In truth, the Bible is a book of principles that set people free.

James 1:25

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Some see the U.S. Constitution as a document that constrains them. It will not allow them to institute their progressive agenda. In fact, the Constitution protects our freedom by restricting foolish politicians.

Vote for Personal Responsibility

Too many politicians embrace a socialistic/communistic view of humanity. They see people as members of a class or group rather than individuals. These foolish politicians ascribe guilt or victimhood based on class. This is the opposite of God’s view.

Our Creator explained that each individual is responsible for their actions.

Ezekiel 18:4

Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Our Lord further explains this position with an example of a father and son.

Ezekiel 18:5–20

But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman, And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man, Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord God.

If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things, And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour’s wife, Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination, Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.

Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like, That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour’s wife, Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment, That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.

Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

The individual is responsible for His actions! This principle applies to many areas of life.

The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights preserves our right to freely assemble to serve God without government interference. Also, it protects our right to speak our minds and not be controlled by popular opinion or political correctness.

The Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights guards our right to protect ourselves by keeping (owning) and bearing (carrying) arms.

Both of these Amendments are under fierce attack by those who don’t believe in personal responsibility. These unwise politicians assert that the safety and preferences of the many outweigh the rights of the few. This is wrong!

Vote for those who believe in personal responsibility, rewards, and consequences.

Vote for Work

The Bible teaches that if able-bodied people refuse to work, they should not eat. This verse means that they are not to be assisted by the government or individuals. To do so is to enable laziness and theft.

2 Thessalonians 3:10

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

The act of taking from those who work hard to give to those who do not is theft.

Exodus 20:15

Thou shalt not steal.

In New Testament days, the safety-net for those in need was the local church. There were strict qualifications of those the church was mandated to help. Consider these conditions for the church to help widows.

1 Timothy 5:3–16

Honour widows that are widows indeed. But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man, Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. For some are already turned aside after Satan. If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.

The progressive political philosophy that supports giving money to those who can work is unbiblical. The concept of universal income is unscriptural. God made mankind to work. We find peace, significance, and joy in accomplishment. Enabling laziness is not only unwise, it is a wicked practice that robs people of their future.

Vote for work.

Vote for Stewardship

God Almighty is the Creator, and Sustainer of all this exists.

Colossians 1:16

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

God intends for His children to be good stewards of all that He gives us.

1 Corinthians 4:1–2

Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

We must steward our time, talent, treasure, and testimony. Also, we should steward the world He gave us. Some go beyond stewardship and worship the creation more than the Creator.

Romans 1:20–26

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Their rejection of God and worship of His creation leads to unspeakable sin and wickedness. Don’t fall for ungodly thinking toward our world.

Vegetarianism and veganism are not of God. These are signs of the end times. God explicitly tells us we can eat meat with thanksgiving.

1 Timothy 4:1–5

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

The concept of Mother Earth is heathenism. We don’t worship mother earth. We worship Father God. Some politicians vigorously push the Global Warming and Climate Change agenda. They are scaring people into making drastic and devastating concessions by claiming the world will end in 12 years. Those who pay attention have heard this song and dance before.

Global warming is coming, but not the one they promote.

2 Peter 3:9–13

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Mankind should be more concerned about turning to Christ and living righteously than fossil fuels and cow flatulents.

There is only one escape from coming destruction. Trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour today! Confess your sinfulness to God. Accept Christ as the Son of the Living God. Believe in His substitutionary death, physical burial, and bodily resurrection. He will save your soul and reserve your place in Heaven.

Vote for Liberty!

CONCLUSION

Politicians come and go, but God’s Truth remains the same. Personalities can deceive. Promises can be broken. Never put your faith in man.

Do your part to preserve our nation. The Bible must inform your voting. Step into the voting booth and cast your vote according to the Bible. Then pray for God to have mercy on our nation, forgive her sins, and send revival.
