The world needs Jesus. Learn how to share your faith confidently with these simple, but powerful tips.

Mark 16:15

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

God has given us the responsibility of reaching the world with the Gospel of Christ. What a commission! What stewardship!

However, the average Christian rarely speaks a word regarding Christ to sinners. This sad fact says more about the state of our nation and the condition of our churches than any poll or questionnaire ever could. If God’s people are not going after sinners, the lost have no hope of salvation!

Are you confident a confident soul winner? You can be. If you were the only hope of salvation for the people in your life, what would be there chances of going to Heaven?

The Great Commission is not only for preachers. Every saved person is an ambassador of God to the lost world. Click To Tweet

Each Christian should work to be skillful in the Word for the salvation of souls.

If you are confident in anything in this life, make it the glorious work of bringing sinners to Christ.

Here are seven ways to have confidence in Soul Winning.

1. Confidence in the PRECEPT of Soul Winning.

A “precept” is a rule or commandment meant to regulate thought or action. The Great Commission is a precept.

Spreading the Gospel should consume our thoughts. Each living soul is destined for hellfire without Christ. Everyone we know is either saved or lost. Every stranger we meet will live forever in Heaven or die forever in Hell. Those facts are worth some thought! To go through life without concern for the souls of others is an indictment of our spiritual state and a condemnation of our Christian character.

Good intentions and sincere hopes do not save the lost. We must open our mouths to speak the Gospel. No one can be saved without believing in Christ. No one can believe in a Saviour they don’t know.

Romans 10:14–15

“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”

We have been commanded to preach the Gospel to every creature. We have been commissioned to flood the Earth with the knowledge of salvation.

The Great Commission is not only for preachers. Every saved person is an ambassador of God to the lost world.

2 Corinthians 5:18–21

“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

An apple contains the seeds for more apples. A Christian knows the Truth that saves more souls.

God has given us the glorious treasure of eternal life contained in our earthly existence.

2 Corinthians 4:3–7

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”

Our Lord has entrusted the Gospel to us. He trusts us to pass on the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 2:4

“But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

We are unfaithful stewards if we do not let people know of the unspeakable gift of salvation that was committed to our trust.”

The Apostle Paul was a soul winner extraordinaire. He hazarded his life to preach the Gospel far and wide. Why? He understood that God had trusted him with the Gospel. If he was able to cross oceans to win souls, why won’t we cross the street?

The precept of soul winning not only changes our thinking, but it changes our actions. We must share the Gospel daily through words, tracts, and media. Also, we have an obligation to dedicate time in our schedule to spread good news and train others how to go soul winning.

There has been a debate between confrontational soul winning and lifestyle evangelism taking place for decades.

Confrontational soul winning says that you must speak to people about their soul, explain the Gospel, and invite them to accept Christ.

Lifestyle evangelism says that if you live a moral Christian life, people will approach you to see what makes you different. Further, this unbiblical philosphy says that if you confront people about salvation, you will “push them away.”

There need not be a debate at all. While the Bible teaches the necessity of maintaining a good testimony, it clearly illustrates the confrontational approach.

No one goes to Heaven without trusting Christ. No one can trust Christ if they don’t know how. No one can learn the Gospel unless someone tells them.

You must speak the Gospel. It’s just that simple.

2. Confidence in the POWER of Soul Winning.

Soul winning works.

I was saved because someone shared the Gospel with me. If you are saved, it’s because someone shared the Truth with you.

We tell individuals about Christ because we are commanded to do so.

Mark 16:15

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

We must witness to our family, our coworkers, and strangers that cross our path.

We should knock on doors and share the Gospel with people wherever they are because God commanded us to do so.

Acts 5:42

“And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.”

Acts 20:20

“And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,”

Door to door soul winning is not an outdated approach or a cultural preference. It is the biblical method. Preachers in the book of Acts didn’t go from house to house because it was especially accepted during the time. They went because of the urgency of the message! That’s the same reason we should go.

Soul winning still works, but we don’t go simply because it works. We go because God commands it. Soul winning will bear more obvious fruit at times, but don’t get discouraged by lack of visible results. Obey the Lord. He will give the increase.

1 Corinthians 3:6–9

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.”

Soul winning is partnering with God. Whether we plant, water, or harvest, it is our privilege to do God’s work!

Soul winning works. We have confidence in the power of soul winning.

Why?

Soul winning carries the power of the Gospel.

Acts 26:18

“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”

Acts 26:18 gives us a five-point outline of God’s work in individual lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

1. Open Their Eyes

Unbelievers are blind to the Gospel. They are lost not knowing their way to God. Their lives are filled with sin and their hearts with doubt. Often, they are in bondage to a false religion. They serve phony gods from paganism to atheism and everything in between. But the God of Heaven can open their eyes!! God can make the blind to see the Glorious Gospel of Christ!

2. Turn From Darkness To Light

Blindness equals darkness. Unbelievers live in darkness. They cannot see what they stumble over in this life. They grope and groan desiring to see!

Thank God for the light! The light makes manifest their condition showing the way to God. The Savior rescues the children of darkness and makes them children of the light!

3. Turn From Power Of Satan Unto God

Satan is a hard master. He leads with fear, intimidation, and punishment. He imprisons lost souls in a web of lies, deceit, discouragement, and destruction. His goal is to deceive them straight into Hell.

God rescues sinners from satan’s power! He miraculously changes their earthly destiny and their eternal destination. Christ frees them from bondage and makes them His own to live by grace and faith. Praise God!

4. Receive Forgiveness Of Sins

Many sinners long for forgiveness. They seek it in false religions. They hope for it through good intentions. Desperation for forgiveness sets in as a sinner gets closer to death. They grasp for it through religious contrivances.

The Gospel gives them the answer! God forgives sinners for Jesus’ sake. God releases sinners from the penalty of sin through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. What joy forgiveness brings! The priceless knowledge that one is at peace with God – that death holds no danger!

5. Receive a Divine Inheritance

Not only are sinners saved from Hell, but also they are given the inheritance of sons. They are birthed into God’s family through faith in Christ. They are given full rights and privileges of a child of God regardless of where they are from or what they have done. Earthly blessings and eternal rewards are now their inheritance!

These five supernatural benefits happened in your life when you trusted Christ. Don’t keep it to yourself! Share the glorious Gospel with someone this week!

Soul winning endues the Soul Winner with power for the task.

Special power is made available for soul winning. God anoints soul winners with boldness, wisdom, protection, and power to complete the mission of Jesus Christ.

John 20:21–23

“Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.”

3. Confidence in the PARTNER of Soul Winning.

The Holy Spirit is our soul winning partner.

Acts 1:8

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Evangelism is a supernatural task. It must be accomplished through the energy of the Holy Spirit of God.

Winning a soul to Christ is not winning a debate or selling a product. It is a supernatural conversion. Only the Holy Spirit can speak to the depths of the heart while we speak to the ears. Only His power can erase sin and perform the new birth.

We recommend that you go soul winning with a partner human during scheduled times. This practice follows the model of Christ while providing encouragement and safety.

Luke 10:1

“After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.”

While we are thankful for human help, we rejoice that we are never alone when speaking for Christ. The Holy Spirit is our soul winning partner.

1 Thessalonians 1:5

“For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.”

4. Confidence in the PURPOSE of Soul Winning.

The purpose of soul winning is to win souls. I know that statement is a little on the nose, but you might be surprised what activities get labeled “soul winning” in some churches.

What is the purpose of a lifeguard? To keep people from drowning. What is the purpose of a fire fighter? To fight fires. What is the purpose the soul winner? To win souls!

Jude 22–23

“And of some have compassion, making a difference:

and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”

Every soul saved is one less tormented sinner and one more grateful child of God.

Some will be saved through a compassionate approach. Others need to be dangled over the pit of hell smelling the sulfur and hearing the crackle of the flames. The end result is the same… A new name written in the book of life!

The purpose of soul winning is to warn souls.

It’s important to understand this truth. If you focus on the results alone, you can get discouraged when no one gets saved.

The Old Testament watchman was trusted with the security of the city. He would keep watch while others went about the day or slept. The watchman was tasked with warning the city when danger came. If he neglected to do his job, he was guilty for those he failed to warn. The blood of the innocent would be on his hands as if he killed them himself.

Ezekiel 3:17–18

“Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.

When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.”

We are like a watchman for the souls of men. We know the truth. We see the danger approaching. We know their terrible fate. If we warn them, we have done our job. If we fail to warn them, we are complicit in their destruction.

If we warn enough souls, we will win some too. Get busy warning and leave the results up to God.

5. Confidence in the PRINCIPLES of Soul Winning.

Ecclesiastes 8:1

“Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.”

Knowledge gives confidence. This fact is true in every area of life. The more you know about a task, the quicker and more effectively you can accomplish it. Soul winning is no different.

Be a student of soul winning. Study the various methods. Learn from the successful.

Master the Romans road. Learn how to turn any conversation to the Gospel. Discover the common objections and Scriptural rebuttals. Understand how to draw the net. Uncover how to get converts to church and baptized.

The more you know about soul winning, the higher will be your confidence.

After all, is there anything more worthwhile to learn?

6. Confidence in the PRAYER of Soul Winning.

Pray about soul winning. More prayer equals increased confidence and effectiveness.

Spend time each day praying for the lost to be saved and for you to be an effective soul winner. Add it to your daily prayer list. Schedule a special time of prayer on the subject each week. If possible, spend 15 minutes in concentrated prayer before scheduled soul winning times.

Ephesians 6:18–19

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,”

Colossians 4:3

“Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:”

Here are some things you can pray for regarding soul winning:

  • Boldness.
  • Open Doors.
  • Divine Appointments.
  • Wisdom.
  • Understanding.
  • Power.
  • Fullness of the Holy Spirit.
  • Guidance.
  • Protection.

This is what I call the “Soul Winner’s Prayer.” I pray it often.

“Lord, give me the wisdom to know what to say, the love to know how to say it, and the power so that what I say makes a difference.”

7. Confidence through PROFICIENCY of Soul Winning.

Just do it.

The first word of the Great Commission is “Go.”

Matthew 28:19

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”

Soul winning is a task that requires action. You can only learn so much by study. Mastery only comes through activity.

“But I’m not good at it,” you say. “I don’t know how to talk to people.”

You have to be willing to be a bad soul winner before you can be a good one.

Here are some thought about common excuses.

  • I’m not a people person. – Lifeguards don’t have to pass a personality test. They need to be able to keep people from drowning.
  • I’m shy. – The Holy Spirit will give you boldness.
  • I don’t know what to say. – How much effort have you put into learning?
  • I tried soul winning, and it didn’t work. – It took you months to learn how to walk. We don’t quit worthwhile endeavors because they are difficult.
  • I don’t want to push people away from God. – They are already going to Hell. How much further can you push them?
  • That’s not my spiritual gift. – Soul winning isn’t a gift. It’s a command to every Christian.

You earn confidence by putting in the work. Let’s get busy!

CONCLUSION

You can be a confident soul winner! Marinate your heart in these truths. Ask God right now to help you improve your skill with the Gospel so you can be a part of His great harvest.
