Preparation is key to any successful endeavor. Soul winning is no different. Here are some practical items to consider when preparing to win souls.
Luke 10:1–2, 17 “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy
also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but thelabourers are few: pray yetherefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forthlabourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”
In Luke 10:1-16, our Lord gathered his disciples to give them instructions as they went out from city to city in His name. He prepared them for what they would encounter in ministry and gave them instructions on how to respond to various situations.
Preparation allowed the disciples to have confidence in their purpose and accomplish their task with gladness. There is no joy like obeying the Saviour in getting out the Gospel!
In this article, I give you an outline that we use in soul winning training. Usually, the bullet points are expanded upon with instruction and a handout given to each student for notes. Also, there is a link at the end of the article to one version of a sermon that accompanies this lesson.
It is wise to consider four areas of preparation in regards to soul winning.
Preparation Of Your Tools.
Carry Gospel Tracts With Your Church Information.
Get A Pocket New Testament.
Draw A Map In Your New Testament.
Carry Convert Cards.
Carry Two Pens.
Carry A Soul Winning Form Or Paper To Track Your Visits.
Purchase Breath Mints.
Wear Comfortable Shoes.
Consider The Weather And Dress Appropriately.
Preparation Of Your Head.
Memorize The Gospel Plan.
Memorize Other Appropriate Soul Winning Verses.
Choose A Soul Winning Time.
Determine To Be Clean, Neat, And Polite.
Choose An Area To Visit.
Think Through Possible Situations And Bible Verses To Use.
Go Two By Two. (Luke 10:1)
Have A Positive Attitude About Soul Winning.
Preparation Of Your Heart.
Study The Bible Daily.
Pray Daily For Souls To Be Saved.
Pray Daily For Boldness.
Pray Daily For Holy Spirit Power. (Luke 24:49;Acts 1:8, Acts 4:29-32)
Pray Over Your Soul Winning Area One Week In Advance.
Pray For Your Soul Winning Partner.
Strive To Live A Holy Life. (1 Peter 2:15, Hebrews 12:14)
Go Believing.
Consider The Cross.
Visit Hell.
Weep For The Lost.
Psalm 126:5–6 “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
Preparation Of Your Approach
Knock On The Door Confidently.
Talk Intelligibly.
Be Charming.
Be A Good Listener.
Designate One Person To Do The Talking.
Designate A Silent Partner To Help With Distractions.
Stay On The Subject Of Salvation.
Be Thorough Explaining Salvation.
Answer Questions After The Gospel Has Been Given.
Get Inside If You Can.
Never Go In A House Alone.
Never Go In A House Where A Lady Is Home Alone.
Don’t Talk To Children Without Parental Permission.
If Someone Is Rude, Immediately Knock On Five Doors In Every Direction.
Handle Rejection With Faith. They Are Rejecting Christ Not You.
Shake The Dust Off Your Feet And Go To The Next House.
Go With Different People.
Congratulate Him When He Gets Saved.
Invite Him To Church.
Ask Him To Promise God He Will Come.
Take Him To Church The First Sunday.
Record Your Results In Your Soul Winning Notebook.
