Do you ever feel like the world is out of control? I do, but this truth keeps me sane.
“And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.” ~ Revelation 19:6
Humanist philosophies, in various forms, teach that the universe exists in chaos without thought or intention. This lie causes many believe that life is a series of accidents and coincidences. Not so, my friend!
I take great comfort in knowing that my God is in full control. The Bible plainly teaches that God is Sovereign. He rules and reigns according to His pleasure. He is accountable to no-one and controllable by nothing. The Sovereignty of God is a powerful and comforting truth!
SŎVEREIGNTY, n. suv´eranty. Supreme power; supremacy; the possession of the highest power, or of uncontrollable power. Absolute sovereignty belongs to God only.
~ Webster’s 1828 Dictionary
We won’t take the time in this article to address the intersection of God’s Sovereignty and Man’s free will. It is clear that God has allowed man the will to choose. Since the original sin of Adam, this world has been cursed and inhabited by sinners. Evil surrounds us and sometimes attacks us. Yet, God is still in ultimate control working all things together for good to them that love Him. Romans 8:28
Who Reigns? The Lord God Omnipotent!
The fact that an Almighty God rules and reigns may be scary to those Who don’t know Him. However, we know that God is good, kind, merciful, gracious, and longsuffering. He can be trusted in all aspects of life.
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: The LORD will give grace and glory: No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” ~ Psalm 84:11
This great verse reminds us that God is a Provider (sun), Protector (shield), Patron (grace), Promoter (glory), and Presenter (no good thing). This is His character. It is Who He is. I will gladly rest in Him as He works all things together for good.
The next time you feel like life is out of control. Remember that God has things well in hand. He will balance the scales. He wins the final battle. He has His glory and your best interests in mind. Trust Him when you don’t understand. Believe Him when life doesn’t make sense. Know that He is at work when you can’t see His hand. He is still in control. Take comfort in His Sovereignty!
