A growing church is a clean church! These pointers will help you get your church ready for guests. Get your free Spring Cleaning checklist today.

My mom did a good job of keeping the house clean when I was growing up. I’m thankful we didn’t grow up in a filthy home. Although she may have called my bedroom a pig sty (more than once), and I was occasionally asked if I grew up in a barn, mom taught us the virtue of cleanliness.

Even though our house was clean, there were times that we would have to go the extra mile because company was coming over. Apparently, our normal level of clean was not good enough for guests!

Cleanliness is an attitude.

A pastor and church that expect visitors to come look differently at cleaning and maintenance. They realize that they must go the extra mile to ensure the buildings look clean, maintained, and organized to the fresh eyes of guests.

Clean is an attitude. It doesn’t cost much to be clean and organized, but it costs a lot not to be. A plan and some old-fashion elbow grease (that means hard work for you city folk) are all that is required.

Your church is the House of God.

1 Timothy 3:15 “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”

God’s house should be maintained and cleaned regularly.

A dirty church is a bad advertisement for a Holy God. We must be good stewards of the properties and vehicles that God entrusts to us.

Make a cleaning checklist and enlist volunteers for a weekly Cleaning Crew ministry.

There will be people in your church that may not feel comfortable in public ministry but would be thrilled to clean the building for Jesus.

Teach the people the joy of serving God behind the scenes in humble jobs like cleaning, mowing the lawn, and maintaining the buildings.

Schedule two cleaning days per year where you ask all the members to help.

We schedule Spring Cleaning in March or April before Easter and Fall Clean-up in November after most of the leaves have fallen from the trees. These dates are on our annual church calendar distributed at the beginning of the year.

Create a checklist of jobs for these large cleaning events. Divide the list into categories such as Inside, Outside, Organizing, and Special Projects. Focus on deep cleaning. Schedule some special projects (carpentry, plumbing, painting, etc.) for trained or skilled members.

Make a list of all the supplies needed to complete those tasks and have them ready for the people when they arrive.

The atmosphere should be light and cheery. Make it fun! Playing good background music and providing refreshments will help too.

Get busy and have fun!

Mark items off of the checklist as they are accomplished.

During the Sunday services, make a big deal of the people that helped and all that was accomplished.

Spend much time in prayer and visiting to bring visitors to church this Spring!
