tBillions of people around the world celebrated the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ last week during the Christmas holiday season.  Truly, that is a miracle worthy of celebration!  [This Post is rated PG.]

However, I can’t help but notice how frequently people skip over the important word VIRGIN.  We live in a hyper-sexual world.  Sexual sins are not only accepted in this generation but also are celebrated.  God’s people should live differently.  God has not called us to uncleanness, but unto holiness.  Virginity is still as important to God today as it has always been!

Let’s take a few moments to remember the importance of virginity.

What is Virginity?

VIRĠIN´ITY, n. [L. virginitas.] Maidenhood; the state of having had no carnal knowledge of man.  ~Websters 1828 Dictionary.

VIR’ GIN
noun
1.  a person who has never had sexual intercourse.
2.  an unmarried girl or woman.  ~Dictionary.com

Sex is a wonderful gift of God to be enjoyed within the covenant of marriage.  Any mental or physical sexual encounter outside of marriage is a sin.  Matthew 5:28  There are several different names that sexual sins are given in the Scripture.   They are unnecessary to know in this article but are worth studying on your own.  It must be preached from the pulpit and taught in the home that virginity should be valued and protected until the honeymoon night.

[shareable]Fornication and adultery are just as much sin today as they always have been![/shareable]

I know this will seem extreme to many.  The world today is either ignorant or rebellious of God’s teaching on morality.  This is not surprising.  What is surprising is the extent that worldly philosophy and immorality has invaded the House of God.  That must change!  We must submit to the authority of God’s Word!

Virginity is Still Important to God.

There are 4 categories of sexual activity in the Bible.

Virgin

These are unmarried and have never had sex.  God blesses sexual purity.

Married

These are sexually active within the commitment of marriage.  The “marriage bed” is honorable and undefiled.  God blesses married couples with intimate bliss.

Fornicator

These are unmarried but are sexually active.  Fornication includes the mental sins of unclean thoughts, pornography, etc.  Fornication is a sin against God.  He judges it harshly.

Adulterer

These are married, yet seek sexual fulfillment outside of the bounds of marriage.  Adultery is a sin against God.  He judges it harshly.

God expects you to remain a virgin or get married to a committed Christian.  Thankfully, there is forgiveness for the fornicator and adulterer who turns to God.

God Demands Sexual Purity before Marriage.

Hebrews 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Warnings and judgments against immorality found in the Old and New Testaments.  Fornication and adultery are just as much sin today as they always have been!

1 Corinthians 6:18–20
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Thessalonians 4:3–7
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

Jesus Christ was Born of a Virgin.

Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,
And shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Luke 1:27
To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

A sexually clean vessel was needed for the incarnation of the Son of God.  God is still in need of clean vessels to do his work!

Some Virgins wore Special Garments in the Old Testament to Signify their Purity.

2 Samuel 13:18 KJV
And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

Just as a white wedding dress is worn to signify virginity, clothing has always revealed a lot about the heart and mind of the wearer.  There is no doubt that people pure in body and mind dress differently than impure people.  Think how differently a baseball player, a cowboy, a rapper, a harlot, and a pastor’s wife dress from one another.  Yes, our clothing reveals our allegiance, attitude, and intention.

[shareable]People may laugh and mock your virginity. Let the heathen rage. God’s blessings are worth a little persecution.[/shareable]

Realize that your body is special and reserved for God and your spouse.  Don’t buy into the world’s philosophy of using clothing to showcase your body.  Your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit not a vessel for fornication.  A Christian should not try to be “sexy”.  That is a worldly adjective that has no place in the thinking of a consecrated Christian.  Seek to glorify God in your appearance and attitude.

Virginity had Great Worth Symbolized by a Financial Price.

Exodus 22:16–17
And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

Virginity is of great value.  You can never get it back once you give it away.  It is a treasure to be given to your spouse on your wedding day.  Protect it!

People may laugh and mock your virginity.  Let the heathen rage.  You could become immoral like them any day you choose.  But they can never again be a virgin like you.  God’s blessings are worth a little persecution.  Virginity is important to God!
