Trust in the Lord

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
(Proverbs 3:5)

This familiar Scripture has been convicting the hearts of God’s people for 3,000 years. The simplicity of it’s wording belies the power of it’s message. TRUST IN THE LORD. Four simple words that cut to the heart of the great human problem. We just don’t trust the LORD.

How much better would our world be if people would just trust in the LORD? How much improved and blessed would your life be if you would just trust in the LORD? If we trust in the LORD’S gospel, we can be forgiven, made a child of God and live eternally with Him in Heaven. If we trust in the LORD’S Bible we learn all that is necessary for faith and practice that leads to an abundant life on earth now. Oh, why don’t we trust Him?  The heart of man is deceitful and will lead us to misplace our trust in people and things that are not worthy of it. Satan knows the wonderful everlasting results of our trust in the LORD and works diligently to erode it.  Nevertheless, the Bible commands us to trust in the LORD.

The Hebrew word for trust in this verse means to trust, to be confident, to be sure. We can trust the Lord! He has proven Himself faithful countless times during the history of the world. If you could see the overview of your life clearly, you would see that God has never failed you or let you down. Any perceived instance of the LORD failing you will be cleared up beyond a doubt in Heaven. So why not choose to trust Him now? Why not confess to the Lord that in your human reasoning it feels like He has let you down or forsaken you, but you choose to believe the Bible and trust in the LORD.

Trust is a choice.  Every situation affords us an opportunity to believe what God says in the Bible or reject it.  Doubt is an opportunity for faith.  Choose to trust in the LORD.  What freedom we find when we choose to trust in the LORD! Break the chains of doubt that hold you captive in fear, negativity, anxiety, and disbelief! Stop leaning on your own limited understanding and trust the limitless God of creation. It is easy to have a small measure of faith in the Lord that lulls us into a sense that we are sufficiently trusting Him.  We “trust” the LORD when everything is going well, the family is healthy and there is money in the bank.  We trust Him when we can see how trials will work out for good in the end.  Then we fall apart when we can’t understand why God is allowing a thing or how it will work out. This ought not to be!

My friend, choose to trust God in the darkest days of your life.  Choose to trust Him when it doesn’t make sense and you have no idea how it will work out.  Choose to trust Him when others around you tell you to “curse God and die” as Job’s wife counseled him.  Remember that your extremity is God’s opportunity!  Every affliction is an opportunity for faith.  Your faith is the platform that God will use to glorify Himself to the world around you.  Don’t comfort yourself with faith in a few compartmentalized areas of your life, but trust in the LORD with all your heart. Root out any doubt in your life then confront it with faith and convert it to trust in the LORD.

TRUST IN THE LORD!
