As Hurricane Irene is only hours away, I pause to reflect on the events leading up to today.  This week the news channels have buzzed with more analysis, commentaries and storm models than one would care to hear.  The stories of possible mayhem have worked the public into a small frenzy.  As I went to get some supplies on Thursday, I found that the run on certain items had begun.  Bread, water, D batteries and other staples were already scarce or gone.  It only got worse as the storm approached.

I am not saying that these folks were wrong to prepare.  On the contrary, I am for preparation.  When I was a child our motto in the Boy Scouts was “Be prepared!”  This storm will certainly cause much damage along the Eastern seaboard.

However, it amazes me when people put so much thought and effort into preparation for this life, but spend little if any preparing for eternity.  The Bible gives this warning in Amos 4:12  “…because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God“.

Are you prepared to meet God?  If you were to die today, are you 100% sure that you would go to Heaven?
