Sin Wars Against The Soul – 30 Days To Victory

Day 15

There is a war occurring in every Christian.  Fleshly desires of the sin nature besiege the redeemed soul.  The battle can be exhausting.  Here’s how to win.

1 Peter 2:11  “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;”

A new nature was born within you when you trusted Christ.  Your soul was cleansed of sin and conveyed the righteousness of Christ.  It wants to please God in all things and cannot sin.

Your flesh did not get converted when your soul did.  It has the same old desires.  Your body doesn’t care what God wants or about your general welfare.  Lust takes what it wants without concern for consequence.

As you strive to live for God today, your flesh cries out (more…)

Sin Hardens The Heart – 30 Days of Victory

Day 14

Your heart can be soft or hard. Which is it right now?

A tender heart is absolutely necessary for the Christian. God warns us to guard our heart diligently because all of life’s actions and emotions flow through it.

Satan works restlessly to corrupt the heart through sin. He knows that if he can pollute our hearts that we are easy prey for his other traps.

A soft heart is essential. You won’t live for God without it. A soft heart is tender toward God. It’s grateful for God’s blessings. It’s attentive to His voice. It’s surrendered to His will. It’s kind and compassionate towards others. It’s saddened by sin and rejoices in righteousness. A soft heart wants to please the Lord in all things.

A hard heart is the opposite. It is selfish and unkind. It’s more interested in pleasing self than the Lord.

A hard heart changes how you feel. It is ungrateful. It forgets God’s miracles and blessings to focus on the material. It is cynical and negative. It cares little for the things of God.

A hard heart changes (more…)

Occasion To Blaspheme – 30 Days To Victory Devotional

Day 7

Your testimony as a believer brings God glory or blasphemy.  Make sure it is glory by saying NO to temptation.

2 Samuel 12:14“Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that isborn unto thee shall surely die.”

In this verse, Nathan the prophet is explaining to King David the consequences of his sin with Bathsheba.  The baby would not live but go to Heaven.  David would live. God had forgiven his sin.  Nevertheless, David’s transgression had given the enemies of the Lord an excellent opportunity to blaspheme.

Blasphemy is to speak evil against God.

The world knows that Christians are to live differently.  Most unbelievers have a general idea of what God declares as right and wrong.

When you obey the Lord, He can use your life to bring conviction to unbelievers and glory to Himself.

When you sin, your testimony loses its effect on the world.

Unbelievers need to see God working powerfully in your life.  Some are desperate for help.  They need to see your victory to (more…)

Little Sins Lead To Big Sins – 30 Days to Victory over Temptation

Day 6

This verse teaches a tremendous universal Truth that applies to many areas of life. While typically used to explain stewardship principles, it also shows us a valuable lesson about sin and temptation.

Luke 16:10  “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”

If you sin in the “little” things, you will sin in the “big” things.

I understand that there are no little sins in God’s eyes. Never forget that the sin that condemned the world to Hell was eating a piece of fruit that God said was off limits. I am speaking of how people commonly think about sin.

Many people believe they can choose when and how to sin but draw a line that they will never cross. That is not the way sin works. Prisons are full of people that used to think that way.

Sin deceives you to indulge in it. Slowly, the sin that bothered your conscience in the past now seems acceptable. But the thrill begins to wane, so you take the next step toward a bigger more thrilling sin. The steps may be small, but they all head in the same direction – toward destruction.

Have you ever heard someone say, (more…)

Your New Master – 30 Days to Victory over Temptation

Day 2

How will you win the battle over sin and temptation?  Through Jesus Christ your Lord!

Romans 7:25“I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.”

Before salvation, you were a slave to sin and a child of the devil.  Praise God that salvation through faith in Christ made you free from sin and a child of God!  You have a new Master now.

The word “Lord” means supreme master.  In this verse, the word literally means “controller.”

Jesus can be your Saviour, but not your Lord.  He asked the people in Luke 6:46, “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”  To be saved, you must confess Him as Lord acknowledging that is His position as the Son of God.  But do you live like He is your Lord?  Do you seek His will, ask His preferences, and submit to His way when you don’t agree?

Many professing Christians call Jesus Lord but live contrary to His Word.  Even committed Christians will obey in some areas and live how they choose in others.  My friend, either (more…)
