The First Temptation – 30 Days to Victory Devotional

Day 23

Genesis chapter 3 introduces us to temptation.  It reveals Satan’s most effective method of seduction.  Learn these four steps and protect yourself from them.

Genesis 3:4  “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:”

1.  Approach

Satan subtly approached Eve.  He was cunning, sly, masking his true intentions.  The tempter doesn’t approach you in truth saying, “I’m the devil.  I’m here to destroy you.”  On the contrary, he often presents himself as a peer, a guide, or a friend.

He gains your trust by convincing you he understands who you are and how you feel.  It is all a charade to gain entrance into your life.

The devil uses surrogates to get close (more…)

The Tempter – 30 Days to Victory Devotional

Day 22

There is one behind the scenes planning your demise.  He lurks in the shadows hoping you will not notice him.

Like a puppet master, he pulls strings hoping you follow his lead.  As a skilled tactician, he strategizes your defeat.  As a dark general, he marshalls his forces against you planning attacks.  As a devious con artist, he offers you what you want but only gives pain.  As a subtle liar, he will come to you as a friend only to destroy you after he gains your trust.  He is the tempter.

He is known by many names: (more…)

God Won’t Tempt You To Do Evil

Day 21

God is the Deliverer, not the tempter.

James 1:13  “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:”

The word “tempt” has two primary meanings in the Bible.  It is vital that you don’t get the two confused.

Let’s define them according to Webster’s 1828 Dictionary.  It is a reliable resource to define Bible words quickly.

Definition 1 – “To incite or solicit to an evil act; to entice to something wrong by presenting arguments that are plausible or convincing, or by the offer of some pleasure or apparent advantage as the inducement.”

This is a temptation to sin.

Definition 2 – “In Scripture, to try: to prove; to put to trial for proof.”

This is a temptation to see.

God will never tempt you to sin.  He does not (more…)

Sin Leads To More Sin – 30 Days to Victory

Day 20

Sins don’t happen alone.  They operate in groups.  If you surrender to one sin, expect more to follow.

Luke 11:26  “Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

This parable speaks of a man who had an evil spirit.  The evil spirit left him.  I believe the story implies that the man worked to rid himself of the evil spirit.  He was successful for a period of time.  However, the evil spirit recruited seven more wicked spirits and barged back into the man’s life.  He was worse off in the end than he was in the beginning!

There are several vital truths found in this parable.

Willpower is not enough to (more…)

Sin Perverts The Mind – 30 Days to Victory Devotional

Day 18

Sin can change you from the inside out. Protect yourself by rejecting temptation.

2 Corinthians 10:5  “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

Sin is deceitful. It seduces you with the promise of pleasure but secures sadness and pain. If sin is so terrible, why then do people keep sinning?

Sin perverts the mind. It corrupts the way people think. It reduces the capacity to think logically. It confuses right and wrong. It rewrites existing concepts of morality, priority, and deity. In short, people become different when they continue in sin.

I could tell you many stories of good people who have been entirely changed by the deceitfulness of sin. If you have ever seen it happen, you know (more…)
