How To Thrive in Winter Ministry

Winter can be tough on a church if the pastor and people are not prepared.  Make the most out of your ministry during this Winter!

One of the benefits of serving God in New England is that we get to experience all four seasons.  Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter all have their pros and cons.  New Englanders usually have strong feelings about which ones they like and dislike.  Nevertheless, we are privileged to experience them in all of their glory. Each season presents its own challenges to ministry.  We won’t list them all here.  In this article, we will focus on ministry in the Winter.

If you want to have a fruitful ministry in New England, you must make peace with Winter.  That’s easier for some people than others.  If you grew up in the northern United States, you are probably accustomed to cold weather, snow accumulation, and winter storms. Some people even enjoy Winter!  However, if you have never lived or ministered up North, you are in for a treat.  Many well-intentioned preachers have moved to New England believing that God wanted them to serve here, only to quit because of the Winter.  Either God never called them to New England, or they left God’s will because they didn’t consider how to serve God successfully during the cold winter months.  I don’t make that statement as a criticism but as a fact.

My Take On The Current Sexual Assault Avalanche

and how to stop it

You can’t watch the news over the past few months without constantly hearing about sexual assault, misconduct, and harassment.  What used to be spoken of in police offices and courtrooms has become a subject for daily conversation.  Here’s my take…

Sexual Deviance is Real and Pervasive.

I am not surprised by sexual deviance. When you use God’s definitions, we are surrounded by it every day.  The sexual sins that God warns us about in the Bible are accepted and abundant in our society today.  The two most common forms of sexual sin mentioned in the Bible are (more…)

Have You Received The Gift of God?

Christmas is a popular holiday that is celebrated by exchanging gifts with friends and family.  You probably already know that Christmas is the holiday celebrating the virgin birth of Jesus Christ.  You may not know that people began exchanging gifts on Christmas to celebrate the amazing gift God offers to all of mankind.  Have you received the Gift of God?

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”   Romans 6:23

 God Bought You A Gift.

A gift is something that someone else purchases and offers to you with no strings attached. The value of a gift is limited by the wealth of the one buying it.  Almighty God has unlimited resources. Imagine how valuable the gift He bought for you must be!

The Gift of God is Eternal Life.

God wants you to live forever with Him in Heaven.  Heaven is a real place of no sorrow, pain or death where we can live in eternal fellowship with God and one another.

Our sins disqualify us from going to Heaven, so (more…)

A Heart of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is more than a holiday on our calendar. It’s an attitude of the heart: a wonderful way to see the world.  Do you have a heart of thanksgiving?

What words would you use to describe your heart?  This is a most important question!  The Bible is clear about the importance of the heart.

Proverbs 4:23  Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Constantly guard your heart for it will determine (more…)
