Christmas is a popular holiday that is celebrated by exchanging gifts with friends and family. You probably already know that Christmas is the holiday celebrating the virgin birth of Jesus Christ. You may not know that people began exchanging gifts on Christmas to celebrate the amazing gift God offers to all of mankind. Have you received the Gift of God?
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
God Bought You A Gift.
A gift is something that someone else purchases and offers to you with no strings attached. The value of a gift is limited by the wealth of the one buying it. Almighty God has unlimited resources. Imagine how valuable the gift He bought for you must be!
The Gift of God is Eternal Life.
God wants you to live forever with Him in Heaven. Heaven is a real place of no sorrow, pain or death where we can live in eternal fellowship with God and one another.
Our sins disqualify us from going to Heaven, so (more…)
Regret is a powerful emotion that overwhelms and paralyzes those who give it a home. Follow these four Bible steps to banish it from your life.
1 Timothy 1:12–17 “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
We all make mistakes. We all have things we would do differently. The key is that you learn from your mistakes. Satan works to use the errors of our past to haunt us with never-ending pain. Sinful actions, foolish decisions, missed opportunities, mishandled relationships, etc. give him plenty of ammo to use against us. What is haunting you from your past? What emotional club does satan use to beat you with? What nagging regret is keeping you from moving on?
The Apostle Paul had a lot of reasons for regret. He was cheering at the stoning of Stephen the first martyr. He blasphemed Christ, hunted Christians, and facilitated their deaths. Yet, He found victory over regret. He used his past as a motivation for a better future. We can do the same following these steps. (more…)
Thanksgiving is more than a holiday on our calendar. It’s an attitude of the heart: a wonderful way to see the world. Do you have a heart of thanksgiving?
What words would you use to describe your heart? This is a most important question! The Bible is clear about the importance of the heart.
Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Constantly guard your heart for it will determine (more…)
Stop dreading your alarm clock. Get up early each day to walk with God and to get ahead of your task list. Here’s How…
Waking up early will give you quiet time in the morning to prepare your heart, mind, and body for the day. Awake early to walk with God before the busyness of the day begins. Rise in plenty of time to start your day strong, so when it comes time to perform, you can excel.
Proverbs 6:9–11 “How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, And thy want as an armed man.”
There is nothing quite so discouraging as oversleeping in the morning. You wake up and instantly realize that you are behind. You jump out of bed rushing around to make it to work on time or take care of your responsibilities. You feel behind all day never able to catch up no matter how hard you work. You tell yourself you never want to do that again!
On the other hand, some people get up early regularly but feel so exhausted that they have a hard time getting through the day. Some mornings you will have to push through the exhaustion, but you should not feel that way every day. You may need to consider other changes to your lifestyle such as eating healthy, exercising, or adjusting your overall schedule. Consider taking a 15-minute power nap sometime during the day too. Life is cyclical. At times you will have more responsibilities and get less sleep. Other times you will have more free time and get more sleep. The challenge is sleeping enough to excel! Through it all, remember that you are the master of your schedule. Own it and crush it.
Some people believe that they are not (more…)
We live in a time when people reject labels of all kinds. Why is it important to be a Baptist? Why not drop the name and be a non-denominational church? Why does it matter what Christian group with which you identify?
Labels are useful. Imagine how foolish it would be if you went to the canned food aisle at the grocery store and there were no labels. Perhaps there were hundreds of cans marked “Beans.” Are they green beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, or lentils? Are the beans seasoned or unseasoned? No one would know unless they bought the can, took it home and opened it.
Furthermore, how foolish would it be if every restaurant in the world was generically named? Before you enter a restaurant, you want to know if they serve Italian, Mexican, American, Indian, or Chinese. Labels help us see at a glance what kind of food we can expect to find inside the restaurant.
We rely on labels daily to tell us what to expect. They are necessary when it comes to churches as well. Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Pentecostal, Universalist Unitarian, Nazarene, Charismatic, etc. are more than archaic labels. Each one signals a body of doctrine and philosophy that is vastly different from one another. Furthermore, a non-denominational church can be any one of these! How confusing! These various churches can’t all be right.
