Father’s Day is set aside for us to honor our fathers.  How will you honor yours?

Fathers are a gift from God.  God created the family structure.  He chose that a man and a woman would leave their families and cleave to one another.  He designed that children would be a product of their love and be cared for by them. He called the woman “mother” and the man “father.”

It is significant that God allows men to be called by the same name as Himself.  When one accepts Christ as Saviour, they are forgiven and become part of God’s family.  God becomes their Heavenly Father.

Romans 8:15   For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

An earthly father has the important role of caring for the children as God does.  He is to provide, protect, train, encourage, warn, discipline, and inspire.  What a privilege! What a responsibility!

Some men become great fathers while others fail miserably.

Regardless of how well your father fulfilled his role, the office of Father is worthy of honor.

Ephesians 6:2–3  Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Think of three things right now that you are thankful for your father.

If your Dad is still alive, share these things with him today.

If your Dad has passed on, thank the Lord for these things.

May each Father who reads this strive to live up to the name and be a good representation of our Heavenly Father!
